'Comment Manipulation Command' Former Police Chief Cho Hyun-oh Released on Bail in Second Trial

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] Cho Hyun-oh, former Commissioner General of the National Police Agency who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for allegedly orchestrating police comment manipulation during the Lee Myung-bak administration, has been released on bail during the appeal trial.
The Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Ham Sang-hoon) accepted Cho's bail request on the 19th. As a result, Cho was released 187 days after being sentenced to two years in prison and detained in court in the first trial on February 1. Originally, Cho's detention period for the second trial was scheduled to expire in early next month.

Cho was indicted while in custody in October 2018 on charges of ordering the posting of pro-government comments during his tenure at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and as Commissioner General of the National Police Agency. He had previously been released on bail once during the first trial after being detained.
