Toyota and Amazon Join Forces for 'Future Car Development'... Strengthening Cloud Computing Collaboration
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Toyota Motor Corporation is strengthening its collaboration with Amazon in the field of cloud computing. Through this, it plans to accelerate the development of future vehicles such as autonomous cars and connected cars.
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 17th, Toyota and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing division, have signed a contract to build a platform to manage data collected from vehicles sold by Toyota worldwide. Toyota plans to equip passenger cars sold in major markets including Japan, the United States, and China with communication computers within this year, and aims to strengthen cooperation between the two companies based on the data obtained from these vehicles.
Toyota intends to utilize the big data collected through the expansion of connected cars to build various services in areas such as car sharing, taxis, auto insurance, and vehicle management notifications.
This move benchmarks the collaboration between Uber Technologies, a leading American car-sharing company, and AWS.
Amazon plans to strengthen its automotive and mobility sectors through its cooperation with Toyota.
