Hyundai Heavy Industries Group Employees Roll Up Their Sleeves for Flood Recovery
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group employees are stepping up to help neighbors affected by the longest monsoon season on record.
On the 18th (Tuesday), Hyundai Heavy Industries Group announced that it will dispatch over 200 volunteers to areas hit by heavy rain damage, such as Hapcheon in Gyeongnam and Gurye in Jeonnam, and provide essential supplies including cup noodles, bottled water, and masks.
The Hyundai Heavy Industries Group volunteer team, composed of employees from Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Hyundai Electric, and Hyundai Construction Equipment, will carry out flood recovery work from the 19th (Wednesday) to the 22nd (Saturday). They will be divided by region to remove mud and various debris from flooded houses, repair farmland, and fix submerged agricultural machinery.
Earlier, on the 5th (Wednesday), Hyundai Heavy Industries Group donated 1 billion KRW to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association through the Group 1% Sharing Foundation. Additionally, they supported 400 relief kits consisting of blankets, toiletries, and first aid supplies to Cheonan in Chungnam and Hampyeong in Jeonnam. Since early this month, they have also provided a total of 10 heavy equipment machines, including excavators, to flood-affected areas in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong to assist with recovery efforts.
This summer’s monsoon lasted 54 days, the longest since nationwide weather observation began in 1973, and the rainfall amount was the second highest on record, causing over 8,000 displaced people and damage to more than 40 lives and properties.
A Hyundai Heavy Industries Group official said, "Many employees actively volunteered to help flood-affected areas," adding, "We hope this relief effort will help the affected residents recover from the pain of the flood as soon as possible."
