Democratic Party Faces Inevitable Revisions Due to COVID-19 Spread at Gymnasium Convention
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Democratic Party of Korea is expected to revise its original plan to hold the August 29 party convention at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Kang Hoon-sik, the chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said on the 17th at the National Assembly, "According to the original plan, about 1,000 party officials and journalists would gather at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, but since social distancing level 2 is in effect, I think it is inevitable to make modifications."
When asked if the party convention would be held online, Kang said, "We are already holding such non-face-to-face conventions, and I think the focus will likely shift in that direction," adding, "The specific method needs to be discussed."
