View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] As confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rapidly increase mainly in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has requested the Ministry of Education to recommend remote classes and the closure of private academies in schools located in Seongbuk and Gangbuk districts of Seoul.
On the 16th, Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, held an emergency meeting regarding the resurgence of COVID-19 at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and said that they requested the Ministry of Education to implement academic operation measures equivalent to social distancing level 2.
Superintendent Cho stated, "We intend to recommend that kindergartens, elementary, and middle schools maintain one-third of student density, and high schools maintain two-thirds in Seoul area schools."
He added, "Considering the seriousness of the situation at Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk, all schools under the jurisdiction of the Seongbuk-Gangbuk Education Support Office will switch to remote classes for two weeks, and we strongly recommend private academies to close for two weeks as well. We are urgently requesting this from the Ministry of Education."

Superintendent Cho added, "We thought we had passed the 80% mark in the fight against COVID-19, but we are now facing a shocking reversal phase where the virus can resurge. I hope everyone does their best to keep schools safe zones from community infections."
