Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) operates a YouTube channel called ‘Yeonggune’ to share information about the public service world and to communicate pleasantly and familiarly with viewers.
Recently, many local governments have been competing to launch YouTube channels and focusing on online promotion.
Since launching the YouTube channel ‘Yeonggune’ in April last year, Yeongdeungpo-gu has been recognized as the most active channel among Seoul’s autonomous district YouTube channels.
The district explained that it promoted the establishment of the YouTube channel ‘Yeonggune’ to create a two-way communication channel based on fun and empathy, moving away from the existing serious and one-way promotional methods.
Additionally, by reflecting the latest trends in district promotion, producing differentiated content unique to Yeongdeungpo, and delivering it at the residents’ level, it was planned to break the conservative image of public institutions and provide a comfortable and effective communication channel.
The name of the channel ‘Yeonggune’ is also an abbreviation of ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Office’ to approach viewers with a more friendly image.
Launched on the first anniversary of Mayor Chae Hyun-il’s 7th term, the ‘Yeonggune’ channel uploaded its first video on April 8 last year and, in about 1 year and 4 months, has gained 7,000 subscribers and over 1 million cumulative views.
This is about three times higher than the average of 1,700 subscribers and 400,000 views for YouTube channels operated by the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul.
‘Yeonggune’ is mainly composed of four themes: ▲ ‘Gongwongeotdeul’ which answers questions about public service life such as ‘salary’ and ‘employee welfare,’ ▲ ‘Yeonggu-rang Collaboration’ which introduces Yeongdeungpo landmarks and key project sites directly, ▲ ‘Yeonggune Campaign’ which humorously presents major policies like ‘COVID-19 prevention rules’ and ‘staying at home life’ in a skit format, ▲ and other fresh content and formats covering hot places in the region and emergency COVID-19 support system introduction videos.
In April this year, the district opened ‘Tium Studio’ within the district office building, enabling in-house video content production, and also revamped the internet radio podcast ‘Yeonggune Table’ to deliver customized district news in various ways.
