Seongnam-si Expands Free Wi-Fi in Public Places
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding public places where free Wi-Fi can be used.
Seongnam City announced on the 13th that it has installed an additional 368 wireless internet access points (APs) in 335 public places over the past seven months.
These areas are mainly places where citizens requested installation and public places frequently used by many people.
As a result, the number of public Wi-Fi service locations and installed units in Seongnam City has increased to 1,764 places and 2,617 units.
Since 2013, the city has been implementing a free public Wi-Fi construction project, and currently, the service is available on 839 city buses, 400 city and metropolitan bus stops, 81 parks, 14 cultural and sports facilities, 35 areas around Tancheon Stream, and 26 traditional markets.
To use the city's public Wi-Fi, select 'G_PublicWiFi@SeongNam' or 'Public WiFi Free' in the Wi-Fi settings of your smartphone.
The initial Wi-Fi connection screen includes a city promotion feature that provides information on projects promoted by Seongnam City, such as support for long-term delinquent youth student loan borrowers and free recycled bicycle support projects for social welfare recipients.
The city plans to continuously expand the installation of APs in public places so that anyone can use Wi-Fi for free without going through telecommunications networks.
