Jim Rogers: "Japan Fears Peace on the Korean Peninsula... Korea Will Become an Interesting Country"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Jim Rogers, chairman of Rogers Holdings and a world-renowned investment expert, said that Japan and Prime Minister Abe are afraid of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
In an interview on the 9th with the economic and financial YouTube channel 'Shuka World,' Chairman Rogers said, "Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is using every possible method to prevent peace on the Korean Peninsula."
He added, "If South Korea opens the 38th parallel, it will become the most interesting country in the world. If such an opportunity arises, I will invest heavily in Korea."
He continued, "Japan's population is declining, and enormous debt is accumulating daily. On the other hand, if South Korea opens its borders, it can gain access to North Korea's cheap labor and vast natural resources. It will also be located near the border with China."
Chairman Rogers is an American businessman and financial analyst, considered one of the world's top three investors alongside Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, and George Soros, chairman of Soros Fund Management.
Earlier, in November last year at the 'Korea-ASEAN CEO Summit' held in Busan, Rogers predicted, "If the 38th parallel collapses in Asia, where dramatic changes are occurring, South Korea will become the most exciting place in the world. This is because the combination of South Korea's capital and manufacturing with North Korea's resources and labor will lead to economic revival."
Regarding Japan, he said, "Japan will decline after the Tokyo Olympics, and as a result, its debt will increase, and this damage will erode Japan."

Furthermore, in June, in an article published in the Japanese weekly magazine 'Shukan Asahi,' he harshly criticized Japan's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, "All I can say is the result. Japan's response is lagging behind South Korea's," and added, "Japan records one of the worst death rates per capita in Asia, and Prime Minister Abe is failing to demonstrate leadership."
