Gyeonggi-do Provides Paju English Campus as 'Shelter for Disaster Victims'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has decided to provide the Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus, which conducts residential vacation English camp education, as a temporary shelter for disaster victims.
The Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Agency's Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus announced on the 10th that due to the spread of COVID-19, the annual residential vacation English camp will not be held this year, and the facility will be used as a temporary shelter for flood victims affected by the recent heavy rains.
The Paju Campus can accommodate up to 50 families, or 300 people. Each room is fully equipped with heating and cooling, a restroom, shower, and washbasin facilities.
The Paju Campus complies with government quarantine guidelines such as disinfection, provision of sanitizers, and temperature checks, and has nursing staff on site, which is expected to greatly help maintain the hygiene and safety of the disaster victims.
Jung Jong-sam, head of the Paju Campus, emphasized, "It is only natural to use facilities operated with residents' taxes for the residents themselves. We will do our best to alleviate the inconveniences of temporary housing and to realize the social value of a public institution."
