Jeong Heon-yul, Mayor of Iksan, "COVID-19 Prevention and Disaster Response Must Be Thorough"
Review of Heavy Rain Damage Status and Current Issues at the Expanded Executive Meeting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeong Heon-yul, mayor of Iksan, Jeonbuk, held an expanded executive meeting to review the status of local heavy rain damage and check current issues.
On the 10th, Mayor Jeong Heon-yul held an expanded executive meeting at the multipurpose auditorium of the Northern Government Complex, attended by about 90 people including heads of departments, divisions, and units, as well as heads of towns, townships, and neighborhoods, to share and discuss major current issues.
The meeting began by reviewing the local damage and response situation caused by last week's record-breaking heavy rain.
Mayor Jeong urged that all administrative power be mobilized to ensure rapid damage assessment and emergency restoration for residents, and that thorough preventive measures be taken against possible future natural disasters.
As of 0:00 a.m. that day, the number of heavy rain damage reports received in the Iksan area totaled 226 cases, including 65 cases of road flooding, 60 cases of sewage backflow, and flooding of houses and commercial buildings.
Next, the meeting shared and discussed ten major achievements and operational directions of the Future Agricultural Policy Bureau, including ▲establishment and operation of agricultural governance ▲building a local food regional circulation system ▲promotion of environmental improvements such as livestock odor reduction, and focused on 25 livelihood-related projects including ▲discovery of new projects related to the Korean New Deal ▲causes and responses to urban area odor generation ▲urban park development.
Mayor Jeong reflected on the significance of the opening of the Northern Government Complex and requested that the Agricultural Policy Bureau's work be carried out more swiftly for a sustainable future of agriculture and rural areas.
He also ordered the active discovery of linked projects in line with the government's 'Korean New Deal' policy and the establishment of a new public official image by approaching work with proactive and flexible thinking and a fresh perspective to adapt to social changes in the post-COVID-19 era.
Along with this, with the full-scale summer vacation season approaching, he emphasized concentrating all administrative power on intensive COVID-19 quarantine at facilities visited by unspecified large numbers of people such as major local tourist sites, and on checking preemptive measures and response plans to prevent damage from natural disasters such as concentrated summer heavy rain, typhoons, and heatwaves.
Mayor Jeong Heon-yul said, “I thank the staff who have worked hard to prevent COVID-19 and respond to disaster situations such as concentrated heavy rain since the beginning of the year,” and added, “We must devote all administrative power to help citizens affected by the heavy rain quickly return to daily life and thoroughly prepare for the approaching Typhoon Jangmi to prevent damage to residents.”
On that day, Mayor Jeong stayed at the Northern Government Complex to listen to various opinions from residents in the northern area and to promote local current projects, and plans to regularly work at the Northern Government Complex on the first Monday of every month going forward.
Earlier, the opening ceremony of the Hamyeol-eup Northern Government Complex, scheduled for that day, was canceled to prepare for farmer damage caused by the heavy rain and Typhoon Jangmi, and measures were taken to allow all staff to engage in damage prevention activities.
