[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Following the Seoul metropolitan area and central regions, a 'deluge' has also poured down in the southern regions, resulting in an increase in flood damage, with 13 people dead and 2 missing over the past four days since the 7th.
Since the beginning of this month, the total number of deaths and missing persons nationwide due to heavy rain has reached 42, and the number of disaster victims is approaching 7,000.
As of 6 a.m. on the 10th, according to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), 13 people have died, 2 are missing, and 1 injured due to the heavy rain concentrated mainly in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas since the 7th.
The number of disaster victims during this period is counted at 2,576 households and 4,446 people. Due to the collapse of the Seomjin River embankment and other impacts, 2,286 people in Gokseong and Gurye in Jeonnam, and Hadong and Hapcheon in Gyeongnam are unable to return home. Temporary evacuees number 2,618 households and 4,853 people, of whom 461 have not yet returned home.
Facility damage over the four days amounts to 7,929 cases (4,681 public facilities and 3,248 private facilities), with 2,199 houses submerged or buried by soil, and 16,952 hectares of farmland flooded or otherwise damaged. Road and bridge damage accounts for 3,279 cases, river damage 179 cases, reservoirs and drainage damage 149 cases, and landslides 203 cases.
Since the 1st, nationwide deaths due to heavy rain total 31, missing persons 11, and injuries 8.
This figure does not include casualties from water-related accidents such as the Chuncheon Uiamho ship capsizing accident (3 dead, 3 missing).
Disaster victims number 4,023 households and 6,946 people across 11 cities and provinces, of whom 3,425 are still staying at relatives' homes, gymnasiums, or village halls. Temporary evacuees number 4,555 households and 9,574 people, with 969 still unable to return home.
Facility damage over ten days includes 7,546 cases in public facilities and 6,545 in private facilities, totaling 14,091 cases. Emergency restoration has been completed for 9,208 cases, accounting for 65.3%. The area of farmland damaged by the flood reaches 25,113 hectares.
Traffic control continues on roads and railways. Vehicle traffic is blocked at 96 locations including the Gwangju-Daegu Line, Honam Line, and Incheon-Gimpo Line. In Seoul, the Jamsu Bridge and Olympic-daero Yeoui upstream IC entrance are fully closed. Train operations are fully or partially suspended on five lines: Chungbuk Line, Taebaek Line, Yeongdong Line, Gyeongjeon Line, and Janghang Line.

Additionally, access is restricted to 607 trails in 21 national parks including Jirisan, Seoraksan, and Songnisan, 17 underground passages in Jeonbuk, Gyeonggi, and Chungbuk, and 196 riverside parking lots in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu.
