Gominjeong on Fake Video Distribution: "Suing the Video Creator... Will Also Punish Distributors"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Ko Min-jung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 6th that she will take strong action by filing a defamation lawsuit against the creator of a fake video maliciously edited and circulated on social networking services (SNS).
On the same day, Ko stated in a post on her Facebook, "Recently, a fake video titled 'Ko Min-jung' has been spreading through SNS."
She added, "Our office and local branch have been flooded with calls demanding 'strong measures.' The video in question is completely unrelated to Representative Ko Min-jung," and warned, "Those who indiscriminately distribute the so-called 'Ko Min-jung video' may also face punishment."
She further stated, "We are requesting the deletion of related search terms and videos associated with 'Representative Ko Min-jung' on relevant portals."
The fake video Ko referred to is actually footage of Ko Mi-jung, a former member of the Gimje City Council who recently lost her seat amid controversy over an inappropriate relationship with a fellow council member last month.
