[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Seulgi Kim] Amid ongoing criticism including sexual harassment remarks directed at Justice Party lawmaker Ryu Ho-jeong, who attended the National Assembly plenary session wearing a red one-piece dress, former Open Democratic Party lawmaker Son Hye-won stated, "A one-piece dress is formal wear."
On the 6th, Son posted on her Facebook, saying, "A one-piece dress is formal wear. You ignorant people," expressing her opinion.
She also shared several photos, saying, "The 'one-piece dresses' worn by queens, princesses, first ladies, and other prominent social leaders at official events in the photos below."
The photos posted by Son included images of former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, all wearing one-piece dresses.
Earlier, on the 4th, lawmaker Ryu attended the National Assembly plenary session wearing a red one-piece dress. Some netizens responded with sexually harassing remarks toward her, sparking controversy.
As the controversy spread, fellow female lawmakers voiced encouragement and solidarity with Ryu.
Justice Party leader Shim Sang-jung wrote on her Facebook that day, "Our party’s lawmaker Ryu had a tough day. This morning suddenly makes me want to wear a one-piece dress."

Additionally, Democratic Party lawmaker Ko Min-jung expressed support for Ryu, saying, "I cannot agree with the excessive criticism she received over her clothing. Rather, I am grateful that she challenged the National Assembly’s excessive solemnity and authoritarianism."
