If Tomorrow Were the Presidential Election... Opposition Candidate 42% vs Ruling Candidate 41% [Research View]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] If tomorrow were the next presidential election day, a survey showed that the response of voting for the unified opposition candidate was higher than the response of voting for the ruling party candidate.
According to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission on the 6th, in a hypothetical presidential election survey conducted by Research View on behalf of Media Today from the 28th to the 31st of last month (1,000 respondents, 3.8% response rate, ±3.1 percentage points margin of error at 95% confidence level), 42% responded that they would vote for the unified opposition candidate, which was 1 percentage point higher than the Democratic Party (41%).
In the same survey conducted a month ago, 46% said they would vote for the Democratic Party candidate, which was higher than the 36% for the unified opposition candidate.
In the Realmeter survey released on the same day, the party support rate for the United Party recorded its highest since its founding, closely chasing the Democratic Party. According to the survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of tbs from the 3rd to the 5th (1,510 respondents, 4.6% response rate, ±2.5 percentage points margin of error at 95% confidence level), party support was measured at 35.6% for the Democratic Party, down 2.7 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate, and 34.8% for the United Party, up 3.1 percentage points.
This strong performance by the United Party is mainly analyzed to be due to the ruling party’s various real estate measures, such as the 'administrative capital relocation' and the three lease laws, failing to gain support from their base and instead causing backlash amid soaring real estate prices.
Above all, the 'five-minute speech by Representative Yoon Hee-sook at the plenary session' seemed to have a significant effect. On the 30th of last month, Representative Yoon’s speech starting with "I am a tenant" was praised for convincingly pointing out the side effects of the three lease laws without any harsh language or shouting.
