View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Amid growing social interest in asbestos management issues in school buildings and other facilities, a video textbook introducing asbestos analysis methods has been developed for the first time in Korea, drawing attention.
The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute announced on the 6th that it has completed the development of video educational materials that allow researchers at asbestos investigation agencies to easily learn asbestos analysis methods.
Recently, social interest in asbestos, including asbestos management issues in school buildings, has increased, and accordingly, the need to secure reliability in the analytical capabilities of asbestos investigation agencies is also rising.
The research institute developed the video materials to overcome difficulties in face-to-face education caused by COVID-19 and to support education for new asbestos analysts.
The educational videos developed this time consist of two types: a 12-minute and 47-second video on "Airborne Asbestos Analysis Method Using Phase Contrast Microscopy" and a 31-minute and 51-second video on "Asbestos Analysis Method in Solid Samples Using Polarized Microscopy."
The main content covers the entire asbestos analysis process from microscope usage, sample processing, to result derivation, designed to make it easy to follow and learn even the difficult experimental procedures and content.
The educational videos will be produced in DVD format with 500 copies and provided to 197 asbestos investigation agencies designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor nationwide and asbestos analysis laboratories, and will also be released on the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute's YouTube channel.
The Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute has been developing asbestos analysis textbooks and conducting expert training to improve analysis accuracy and precision, but currently, face-to-face education is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, in 2019, the research institute developed two video educational materials on analysis methods for work environment measurement samples, "Organic Compounds" and "Metals," and released them on the institute's YouTube channel.
