70-Year-Old Dies While Evacuating After Accident in Hamyang Tunnel on Tongyeong-Daejeon Expressway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the afternoon of the 5th, around 2 PM, a Grandeur passenger car traveling in the first lane inside the Hamyang Tunnel on the Tongyeong-Daejeon Expressway in Jigok-myeon, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, struck a pedestrian, A (73). A died at the scene as a result of the accident.
The police estimate that A, who had a minor collision inside the tunnel, was trying to evacuate outside the lane to prevent further accidents when the incident occurred.
The Grandeur driver, B (47), reportedly told the police that “A, who was heading toward the second lane, suddenly returned to the first lane.”
The police have determined that B was neither speeding nor driving under the influence at the time of the accident. They are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on B’s statement and the black box footage.
