Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education-Teachers' Union, First Collective Bargaining Negotiation..."Establishing a Win-Win Teacher Labor-Management Relationship"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 5th, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education held the first main negotiation meeting with the Daegu Teachers' Labor Union (Chairman Kim Ha-jin) at the Office of Education, combining it with a courtesy meeting, and began discussions on this year's collective agreement.
The Daegu Teachers' Union, a regional union of the Teachers' Labor Union Federation established separately from the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (Jeon-gyo-jo), was founded in March with the motto of breaking away from centralized bureaucracy and excessive political tendencies. The Daegu Teachers' Union requested collective bargaining with the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education in May, and both sides reached an "agreement on the procedures and methods of collective bargaining" during a preliminary negotiation on July 10.
The 14 negotiators from both sides, after completing the courtesy meeting at the first main negotiation, will proceed with practical negotiations on a collective agreement proposal consisting of 67 articles and 230 clauses aimed at improving teachers' working conditions and educational environments, as well as enhancing teacher professionalism.
An official from the Office of Education stated, "We will strive to ensure that this collective bargaining becomes a substantial negotiation that can practically help improve teachers' working conditions and educational environments."
