Seoul City Daycare Centers Reopen After 175 Days of Closure, Totaling 5,420 Locations
City Lifts Childcare Center Closure Order from 18th
Emergency Childcare Usage Rate Nears 80%
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] All 5,420 daycare centers in Seoul will reopen after being closed for 175 days.
Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it will lift the closure order for all daycare centers starting from the 18th. Daycare centers in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province will also reopen together.
The prolonged closure due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) increased the burden of home care on guardians. The usage rate of emergency childcare services at daycare centers approached 80%.
Even after reopening, daycare centers must comply with quarantine guidelines related to conducting special activities or allowing external visitors. Staff or enrolled children showing suspected symptoms such as fever are prohibited from attending, and temperature checks must be conducted at least twice daily. Childcare staff must wear masks when in contact with children or outsiders during childcare hours.
