On the 3rd, Moon Hong-sik, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, said at a regular briefing, "The Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters was elevated to Level 2 yesterday (the 2nd) at 10:50 a.m.," adding, "We are maintaining an emergency duty system."
Earlier, on the 24th of last month, the Ministry of National Defense formed the Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters, headed by the Logistics Management Officer.
The Ministry operates the Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters in three levels. Level 1 involves checking pre-evacuation plans and preventive activities for designated management facilities; Level 2 prepares for the rapid evacuation of troops and equipment in units located in areas expected to be affected by disasters; Level 3 organizes essential personnel for military damage recovery and systematic government-level support preparations. On this day, the military plans to deploy about 300 troops and 15 pieces of equipment to Daejeon and Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, to assist with soil removal and drainage maintenance.
Jeong Kyeong-doo, Minister of National Defense, held an emergency meeting with key commanders the previous afternoon and instructed ▲ inspection of disaster preparedness posture at all unit levels ▲ maintenance of current operational posture ▲ active civilian support.
