Resumption of Operations at Yongsan-gu Kkum Namu Comprehensive Town
Most Facilities Including Youth Culture House to Reopen from Late July... Dream Tree Library Allows Only Book Borrowing and Returns
... Toy Land Parcel Service Temporarily Free
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is gradually normalizing the operation of Kkum Namu Comprehensive Town (329 Baekbeom-ro, hereinafter referred to as Comprehensive Town), which had been closed since February due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
By the end of July, the district reopened most of the facilities within the Comprehensive Town, including the Youth Culture House, Youth Counseling Welfare Center, Kkum Namu Library, Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, and Toy Land.
The Youth Culture House is an educational and cultural facility offering over 80 programs across various fields such as music, art, science, physical education, and fashion. It is located on the 4th and 5th floors of the main building of the Comprehensive Town.
Considering the COVID-19 situation, the district will operate programs for infants and youth with fewer than 10 participants for the time being. Planned courses include ▲Cherry Teacher’s Little Chef Cooking Class ▲Children’s Pottery Class ▲Reading Art ▲Life Science Class ▲Gifted Baduk (Go) ▲Piano ▲YouTube Creator ▲Drone Class, with enrollment open periodically according to each course’s start date.
Adult courses and group physical activity programs (rhythmic gymnastics, yoga, ballet, etc.) will have their reopening dates reconsidered later.
The Youth Counseling Welfare Center supports youth facing difficulties in school and family life. It is located on the 4th floor of the main building. For now, only one-on-one face-to-face counseling programs are available. Visitors must make a prior reservation by phone before visiting the center.
Kkum Namu Library is located on the 3rd floor of the main building. It holds approximately 37,000 volumes. Besides the reference room, it is equipped with a community room and multimedia reading seats. For the time being, only membership registration, material search, book borrowing, and returns are allowed. Reading books inside the reading room is not permitted.
The Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, located on the 2nd floor of the main building, provides customized childcare services. Starting this month, the center has resumed programs such as parent counseling and information technology education for childcare staff. Some courses (early childhood sex education, roles of infant childcare teachers, etc.) will be conducted online (non-face-to-face).
Ainori Toy Land, which lends toys to children free of charge, is located on the 1st floor of the main building. It holds about 2,300 toys, with a rental limit of 2 toys for associate members and 3 toys for regular members.
To accommodate residents who prefer non-face-to-face services, the district started a Toy Land delivery service in June. Applications can be made through the Toy Land website. Although delivery fees were originally borne by users (except low-income families, pregnant women, etc.), the policy has been changed to allow free use for everyone from August to December.
Additionally, the district plans to switch the Native Speaker Foreign Language Class (1st floor of the main building) and Yongsan Seodang (1st floor of the annex), which had been operated online for some time, back to face-to-face classes starting from the 10th.
The “All-in-One Gift Set for Children,” Kkum Namu Comprehensive Town, first opened in December 2017. Operating hours are Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays.
