Bae Jin-kyo Criticizes at Operations Committee: "Only Pinpointing Democratic Party Bills... No Principles"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Bae Jin-kyo, floor leader of the Justice Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for submitting the follow-up legislation on the establishment of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HCIC) to the full meeting of the National Assembly's Steering Committee, saying, "We cannot understand what the principles and standards are."
At the full meeting of the Steering Committee held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 29th, Floor Leader Bae pointed out, "It is not only the bills proposed by the Democratic Party in the National Assembly, but it seems as if only the bills proposed by the Democratic Party are being selectively submitted, while bills proposed by other lawmakers that should be reviewed jointly by arbitrarily setting a date were not submitted."
He continued, "We also agreed with and were preparing for the three lease laws, but the bill proposed by our party's Shim Sang-jung, which protects tenants more thoroughly than the Democratic Party's bill, was excluded by cutting off the proposal date," he criticized.
He also said, "The Serious Accident Punishment Act was excluded from today's (agenda items for review) as well," adding, "We really cannot understand what the principles and standards are. Isn't the National Assembly supposed to handle more than just the bills the Democratic Party wants on the dates they want?"

The Steering Committee, chaired by Kim Tae-nyeon, floor leader of the Democratic Party, submitted the follow-up legislation on the HCIC as agenda items for review, including the amendment to the National Assembly Act, the amendment to the Personnel Hearing Act, and the amendment to the operating rules of the HCIC Chief Recommendation Committee. The Democratic Party's position is that since the legal deadline for the HCIC started on the 15th, the follow-up legislation must be finalized on this day. The United Future Party protested against the Democratic Party convening the Steering Committee alone and submitting the follow-up legislation on the HCIC Act, and left after only making procedural remarks.
