LANSYS Launches Dedicated Organization for e-Mobility Initiative
Focusing on Intensive Development of e-Mobility and Battery Technologies, Strengthening Market Position
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] German specialty chemicals company LANXESS is launching a dedicated organization called the ‘e-Mobility Initiative’ to focus on nurturing new mobility-related technologies and strengthening its market position.
LANXESS announced on the 23rd that Philipp Junge, currently President of the Rhein Chemie division, will lead the new organization starting August 1. The new organization will integrate and manage LANXESS’s e-mobility-related businesses.
LANXESS has identified the new mobility sector as one of its future growth engines and is focusing on developing related businesses. LANXESS’s high-performance engineering plastics are already being used as lightweight solutions for electric vehicles, battery housings, and charging infrastructure materials, and they have high potential for application in autonomous driving sensors, displays, and control devices.
LANXESS is also a leading supplier of specialty chemicals essential for electric vehicle battery production, such as phosphorus chemicals, hydrofluoric acid, and flame retardants. Recently, the company has been preparing to produce lithium, a core material for lithium-ion batteries. At LANXESS’s El Dorado plant in the United States, a project is underway with partner Standard Lithium to commercially produce battery-grade lithium from lithium extracted during the bromine production process from brine.
