Choi Tae-won and Noh So-young's Divorce Lawsuit: Legal Battle Over 1 Trillion Won Property Division Intensifies
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] As the divorce lawsuit between SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Art Center Nabi Director Noh So-young continues with repeated hearings without the parties' attendance, it appears that the division of assets between both sides due to the divorce is being actively discussed in court.
The Family Division 2 of the Seoul Family Court (Presiding Judge Jeon Yeon-sook) held the third hearing of the divorce lawsuit between Chairman Chey and Director Noh on the 21st.
The hearing, held behind closed doors, lasted about 45 minutes with only the legal representatives of both parties present.
Chairman Chey's side previously stated that they would only appear in court directly if there were matters that needed to be personally clarified, while Director Noh has not appeared in court since attending the first hearing held in April.
After the hearing, the legal representatives of both sides refrained from answering reporters' questions such as "What was discussed today?" and "Was there any confirmation regarding the submission of the asset list?" saying, "Since this is a closed hearing, it is not appropriate to respond."
Earlier, the court demanded that both parties accurately disclose their current asset holdings in preparation for asset division, and Director Noh's side submitted three appraisal requests to the court the day before.
An appraisal request is submitted during the asset division process in a divorce lawsuit when one party does not accept the market value certificates of land or buildings submitted by the other party.
Because of this, there is speculation that Chairman Chey and Director Noh have entered into a full-fledged legal dispute over asset division.
Chairman Chey acknowledged the existence of an extramarital child in 2015 and announced his intention to divorce Director Noh citing personality differences, applying for divorce mediation in 2017. After the mediation failed, the case ultimately proceeded to trial.
