On the 21st, the Family Division 2 of the Seoul Family Court (Presiding Judge Jeon Yeon-sook) held the third hearing of the divorce lawsuit between Chairman Chey and Director Noh in a closed session lasting 45 minutes. Chairman Chey stated that he would attend in person only when there was something to clarify, while Director Noh has not appeared in court since the first hearing in April.
Previously, the court requested both parties to accurately disclose their current asset holdings in preparation for asset division, and Director Noh’s side submitted three appraisal requests to the court the day before. An appraisal request is submitted during the asset division process in a divorce lawsuit when one party does not accept the market value certificates of land, buildings, artworks, etc., submitted by the other party, asking for an accurate market value assessment.
There is speculation that both sides have entered into a full-scale legal battle over asset division. Chairman Chey and Director Noh recently each appointed additional legal teams, and three lawyers from each side, including these new appointees, attended the trial on this day.
Chairman Chey acknowledged the existence of an extramarital child in 2015 and expressed his intention to divorce Director Noh citing personality differences, applying for divorce mediation in 2017. When the mediation failed, the case proceeded to a divorce lawsuit, and Director Noh filed a countersuit in December last year.
