Gwangju City Officially Launches the 'Sseunsori Committee' on the 20th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 19th that it will hold the launch ceremony of the Sseunsori Committee on the 20th, awarding appointment letters and officially activating the committee.
During the first two years of the 7th elected administration, Gwangju achieved many accomplishments that changed the future map of the city. However, to ensure continued dedication to city development without complacency during the remaining period, the city planned the Sseunsori Committee to listen to the candid advice of the silent majority of citizens.
The Sseunsori Committee is responsible for representing citizens by conveying unfiltered opinions on major city issues raised through the media, council, audits, and complex or collective civil complaints.
At the first meeting held that day, the committee will elect a chairperson and vice-chairperson to set the future direction of the committee’s operations, and then listen to diverse opinions from members on all areas of city administration without restrictions on topics or subjects.
The Gwangju Sseunsori Committee was formed last month through an open recruitment process, evenly distributed by gender, generation, social class, and field, consisting of 29 members across nine sectors including childbirth and childcare, welfare and health, and disaster safety. It mainly comprises ordinary citizens who previously had no communication channels with the city government.
Notably, more than half of the 29 members?15?are women, 31% or 9 members are young people in their 20s and 30s, and one member is a person with disabilities. This composition is expected to enable the committee to listen to and propose practical solutions for the difficulties faced by various social groups that might have been overlooked.
Proposals made by the committee will be classified by the relevant departments and undergo in-depth review processes to be actively reflected in city administration and policies.
Gwangju plans to hold the Sseunsori Committee meetings at least once a month, and appointed members will serve for two years from the date of appointment.
