Kyobo Life Insurance 'Gwanghwamun Geulpan', University Student Design Contest Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Kyobo Life Insurance's 'Gwanghwamun Billboard,' now thirty years old, embraces the sensibility of youth.
Kyobo Life Insurance announced on the 15th that it is holding a design contest for university students until the 31st for the 'Autumn Edition' commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Gwanghwamun Billboard.
Since 2014, Kyobo Life Insurance has been hosting the 'Gwanghwamun Billboard University Student Design Contest.' Each year, more than 300 university students participate, expressing the warm messages of the Gwanghwamun Billboard through their artwork. This special 30th-anniversary autumn edition was selected from messages directly submitted by citizens. Over 2,730 entries were collected through the contest held in May, and after review by the Gwanghwamun Billboard Message Selection Committee, the song "Punggyeong" by the poet and village chief was chosen as the final message.
The autumn edition, featuring excerpts from the lyrics of "Punggyeong," aims to convey hope and comfort, encouraging a return to everyday life before the COVID-19 pandemic. Kyobo Life Insurance plans to select outstanding designs that resonate with citizens, suit the autumn message, and evoke the seasonal atmosphere.
Any domestic or international university or graduate student can participate in the contest, either individually or in teams of up to three. Entries can be submitted through the Kyobo Life Insurance website until the 31st.
As this is a contest commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Gwanghwamun Billboard, participants may also submit wrapping designs for the exterior wall of the Kyobo Life Insurance Building that harmonize with the billboard. The winning entries will be selected by the Gwanghwamun Billboard Design Selection Committee, composed of university professors and design experts, and announced on the 14th of next month. The grand prize winner will receive a scholarship of 3 million KRW and the special opportunity to have their design displayed for three months starting in September on the Gwanghwamun Kyobo Life Insurance Building and the Gangnam Kyobo Tower.
A Kyobo Life Insurance official said, "This autumn, the Gwanghwamun Billboard, filled with university students' warm perspectives and sensibilities, will meet the citizens," adding, "Through the Gwanghwamun Billboard, which has become a cultural icon of Seoul, we will communicate and empathize with the public."
