[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Following the U.S. White House National Security Council (NSC), the State Department also mourned the death of General Baek Seon-yeop.
On the 14th (local time), the State Department issued a statement in the name of spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, saying, "The United States extends its deepest condolences to the Korean people on the passing of General Baek Seon-yeop."
The State Department evaluated, "As Korea's first four-star general, his service to the homeland during the Korean War was a symbol of the fight for the shared values of freedom and democracy upheld by both South Korea and the United States," and said, "Based on our shared spirit of sacrifice, we express our deepest condolences and gratitude for his service."
Spokesperson Ortagus also emphasized in her tweet, "General Baek Seon-yeop's service to the nation and dedication to the shared values of freedom and democracy between South Korea and the United States will never be forgotten."
