According to the petition board on the 11th, the petition titled "Opposing Park Won-soon's funeral being held as a five-day funeral and Seoul Metropolitan Government official funeral (葬)" had 449,698 supporters as of 8:30 PM that day.
The petitioner stated, "Because Park Won-soon passed away, the sexual harassment allegations could not be investigated and were closed, but can we be sure that it was a dignified death?" and asked, "Should the public watch the extravagant five-day funeral of a prominent politician who committed suicide due to sexual harassment allegations through the media?"
They continued, "What message are you trying to send to the public?" and emphasized, "I think it is appropriate to hold a quiet family funeral."
Besides this petition, many others opposing Park Won-soon's funeral being held as a Seoul Metropolitan Government official funeral (葬) were posted, such as "Please cancel the five-day funeral for Mayor Park Won-soon" and "We demand the removal of Mayor Park Won-soon’s title and a family funeral."
Among these, the funeral committee for Mayor Park decided to hold a five-day funeral as previously announced. The funeral procession will begin at 7:30 AM on the 13th. A memorial service will be held at Seoul City Hall at 8:30 AM.
Park Hong-geun, a Democratic Party lawmaker and co-executive chairman of the funeral committee, explained at a briefing that day, "At the memorial service at City Hall, the deceased will make a farewell tour around the Seoul City Hall area where he served for nearly nine years, and at 9:30 AM, the procession will depart for Seoul Memorial Park for cremation."
Since the funeral is to be held as a Seoul Metropolitan Government official funeral, the funeral committee chairpersons will be jointly held by Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Baek Nak-cheong, honorary professor at Seoul National University, and Seo Jeong-hyeop, First Deputy Mayor of Seoul.
Mayor Park disappeared after leaving his official residence at around 10:44 AM on the 9th. Later, his daughter reported to 112, and after a seven-hour search operation by police and fire authorities, his body was found near Sukjeongmun Gate on Bukaksan Mountain at 12:01 AM on the 10th.
