According to Changwon Jungbu Police Station on the 9th, A (47), who was staying at a motel in Jungang-dong, Seosan-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam, set fire to the toilet bowl in his room on the afternoon of the 7th by putting paper and a beer can inside. The fire scorched the inside of the toilet bowl before being extinguished.
The next day, on the 8th, a motel staff member who entered the room for cleaning suspected arson based on traces found in the room and reported it to the police.
The police received the report and called A, who was out, and voluntarily accompanied him to the police substation.
During the police investigation, A gave a rambling statement, saying, "I did it to grill meat."
A is known to have a mental illness and is under the management of Changwon city, but he had not been taking the prescribed medication.
