Ahead of Entering the Japanese OTT Market in the Second Half, Strengthening Brand Identity
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Watcha announced on the 9th that it will rename its content evaluation and recommendation service Watcha to 'WatchaPedia' and its over-the-top (OTT) video service WatchaPlay to 'Watcha'.
Watcha explained that it revamped the service names and logo designs to strengthen brand awareness and identity ahead of its planned entry into the Japanese market in the second half of the year.
WatchaPedia is the new name given after 8 years since the beta version of Watcha, a movie, TV program, and book evaluation and recommendation service, was first launched in August 2012. Along with the service name change, improvements to the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) were also implemented. In the improved version, users can search for content directly through the bottom search tab and receive information on available OTT services such as Watcha and Netflix. In addition to personalized content recommendations, popular content rankings within Watcha and Netflix will also be provided.
The OTT service WatchaPlay, launched in 2016, has been renamed Watcha, accompanied by a change in corporate identity (CI) and brand identity (BI). The company stated that this reflects its commitment to viewing the world from diverse perspectives without prejudice and the image of Watcha users with distinct tastes.
