Daegu City and Seegene Medical Foundation Sign 'COVID-19' Agreement... Local Testing Center to Operate from September
Chairman Cheon Jong-gi: "Establishing a High-Level Center at the Headquarters for Active Infectious Disease Response"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City signed a business agreement on the afternoon of the 8th with (Foundation) Seegene Medical Foundation, a specialized medical institution for disease testing, to strengthen specimen testing capabilities in preparation for the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to this agreement, Seegene Medical Foundation plans to operate the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Testing Center in the Daegu area starting from September. They will actively cooperate with Daegu City to efficiently promote not only diagnostic testing but also the fostering of the bio-industry and medical support projects.
Recently, asymptomatic COVID-19 infections have been sporadically occurring in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, and complete eradication is difficult until treatments or vaccines are developed. In February, when the number of patients surged locally, private entrusted testing institutions, excluding the Daegu City Health and Environment Research Institute, were mainly located in the metropolitan area, causing significant inconvenience to citizens.
Cheon Jong-gi, Chairman of Seegene Medical Foundation, emphasized, "As a specialized testing institution in the molecular diagnostics field, we are preparing well to establish a testing center in Daegu at the level of our Seoul headquarters to facilitate early detection of infectious diseases in the Daegu area and actively cooperate with Daegu City's infectious disease response policies."
