Jeonju City Preserves Original Form through Major Cultural Heritage Repair and Maintenance

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do, is undertaking restoration and maintenance of cultural assets to preserve traditional culture.
According to the city on the 6th, restoration and maintenance projects to preserve the original form of major cultural assets such as Gyeonggijeon, Hwanggang Seowon, and Omokdae will be carried out until September.
The city will repair damaged wall tiles along a 64m section to the left of the main gate and a 148m section to the left of the east gate of Gyeonggijeon (Historic Site No. 339), which enshrines the portrait of King Taejo.
In addition, some pillars of the lecture hall at Hwanggang Seowon (Jeollabuk-do Cultural Material No. 12), damaged by termites, will be dismantled and reinstalled, and roof tiles will be replaced. The severely aged wooden floors of the main hall well and side floor will also be repaired.
Earlier, since April, the city has been repairing the aged pavilion roof of Omokdae (Jeollabuk-do Monument No. 16) in the Hanok Village.
Jeondong Catholic Church (Historic Site No. 288) has also been undergoing exterior wall repairs since May. The city plans to repair the roof beams of the bell tower and spire, and replace gutters and windows.

An official from the city's Traditional Cultural Heritage Division said, “We will continue to inherit and preserve traditional culture through systematic management and restoration work,” adding, “We will also carry out various cultural asset-related projects such as the restoration of Jeolla Gamyeong and excavation surveys of Pungpaejigwan.”
