View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the evening of July 4th, the U.S. Independence Day, foreign nationals including U.S. military personnel stationed in Korea flooded the streets and caused a disturbance by setting off fireworks toward citizens and the road. They even continued to set off fireworks at the police who arrived after receiving reports, refusing to stop the disturbance.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on the 5th, around 7:50 p.m. on the 4th, about 70 reports were received via 112 emergency calls about foreigners setting off fireworks on a road in Gumnam-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan.
The police dispatched six patrol cars and one team from the criminal mobile unit to the scene. The officers tried to disperse the crowd using patrol car sirens and warning broadcasts. Despite police warnings, some foreigners continued to shoot fireworks at the feet of police officers and citizens.
The police arrested a U.S. military serviceman in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, at the scene and dispersed the remaining foreigners. Mr. A was taken voluntarily to the Udong Police Station for investigation and was issued a citation for violating the Minor Offenses Act (Article 3, Clause 19: Causing anxiety) before being sent home. There were no reported casualties from the fireworks disturbance.

Most of the foreigners causing the disturbance at the scene were not wearing masks and did not follow personal quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
