'World Heritage Festival - Korean Seowon' Opens at Dosan Seowon in Andong
1st Anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Listing of 'Seowon of Korea' on the 3rd
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The '2020 World Heritage Festival - Opening Ceremony of Korean Seowon' commemorating the 1st anniversary of the inscription of Korean Seowon as a UNESCO World Heritage site was held on the 3rd at Dosan Seowon, a World Heritage site located in Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
The opening event of this festival was themed "Spreading the Fragrance of On-go-ji-shin" and was organized as a celebratory concert and exhibition commemorating the 1st anniversary of the inscription of Korean Seowon last year.
The '2020 World Heritage Festival' consists of various programs including traditional performances and reenactments related to World Heritage, seminars, and experiential activities. Starting with the opening ceremony on this day, the festival will be held for a month in August in Gyeongsangbuk-do (Gyeongju and Andong) and for a month in September in Jeju-do.
At the pre-ceremony performance held at Dosan Seowon, a play titled 'Teacher of Humanity, Toegye Seonsaeng' depicting the story of Toegye Yi Hwang was staged. The celebratory concert featured a musical fantasy blending Korean traditional music such as the Dosan 12 Songs choir, pansori, and gayageum with Western music including soprano, baritone, cello, and violin.
For two weeks until the 19th, an exhibition titled 'Dosan Seowon, Telling the Spiritual Values of Humanity' will also be held.
