"Pouring Good Water on Ramen, Throwing Bowls" Hanchedae Handball Team Junior Assaulted, 'Booked'
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] Amid public outrage over the case of the late triathlon athlete Choi Sook-hyun, who suffered abuse from her team coach and others before passing away, a similar incident has occurred in the Korea National Sport University (KNSU) men's handball team, where a senior allegedly abused juniors, prompting a police investigation.
The Chuncheon Police Station in Gangwon Province announced on the 3rd that they have booked and are investigating A (20), a member of the handball team, on charges of special assault.
A, a third-year student at KNSU, is accused of assaulting B (20), a second-year student, and C (19), a first-year student, during a 3-day, 2-night training camp at a training center in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, around midnight on the 15th of last month.
During the assault, A reportedly poured ramen broth on the victims and repeatedly hit their faces and chests. It is also reported that A threw a kitchen knife and bowls during the incident.
In the process, B escaped and reported the incident to the police, while C was reportedly continuously assaulted by A until the police arrived.
C is said to have been subjected to ongoing harassment by A even before this incident.
