Opening of 'National Tax Statistics Center' to Universities and Private Research Institutes... Branch Office to be Established in Seoul in September
National Tax Service Promotes 'Plan to Expand Disclosure of National Tax Information'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The National Tax Service (NTS) will expand the use of tax information for public interest purposes and the disclosure of useful national tax statistics. To this end, the National Tax Statistics Center will be opened to universities and private research institutions, and a branch office will be established in Seoul in September.
On the 30th, the NTS announced that it will actively promote the "Expansion of National Tax Information Disclosure" to respond to recent government-wide policies on data openness and utilization and to contribute to the realization of a fair and transparent trust society.
First, tax information will be actively provided for necessary items to perform public interest tasks based on legal grounds.
To eradicate unfair transactions and false real estate transaction reports, the NTS will cooperate smoothly with the Fair Trade Commission and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport according to amended laws, and will promptly provide tax information necessary for supporting victims of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) (such as living stabilization fund payments and public utility fee reductions) to local governments.
In addition, national tax statistics will be significantly expanded in disclosure, and transparency and usability will be enhanced through the establishment of a statistical production infrastructure.
In particular, the National Tax Statistics Center will be opened to universities and private research institutions. So far, agreements have been signed with 18 institutions.
Furthermore, a branch office will be established in the Seoul area, where demand is high, around September to improve accessibility and user convenience.
Moreover, a national tax statistics portal will be developed to provide all statistics as time series data and to visualize statistics for easier understanding, allowing users to select and utilize statistical items.
The NTS expects that by building a national tax statistics system, it will improve the timeliness of statistical production, activate the development of new statistics, and support the smooth operation of the National Tax Statistics Center.
