Gwangju Dong-gu, Achieving Gender Equality through Improved Gender Sensitivity
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 29th that it conducted the ‘2020 Gender Impact Assessment and Gender Sensitivity Capacity Building’ training for public officials.
The training was conducted in a hybrid format with both in-person sessions and online video meetings to prevent COVID-19 infection.
This training aimed to enhance employees' gender sensitivity, minimize gender discrimination and inequality in policy formulation and project implementation, and reflect gender-specific policy needs in district administration to realize a gender-equal Dong-gu.
The training, held with the invitation of Yang Dong-ok, Director of the Korea Gender Culture Research Institute, was conducted under the theme ‘Viewing Policies from a Gender-Sensitive Perspective.’ It provided practical content to strengthen public officials’ gender sensitivity capacity to establish and implement policies from a gender-sensitive viewpoint.
So far, Dong-gu has promoted various projects to spread a women-friendly city atmosphere, including ▲Operation of the Illegal Filming NO! Especially, as new projects this year, Dong-gu is focusing on discovering diverse and innovative women-friendly specialized projects and building infrastructure that makes it easier for women to live, including ▲Operation of the Women-Friendly Resident Participation Group ‘Sympathy Talk Meeting’ ▲Operation of Low-Income Women Job Creation Project Team ▲Operation of ‘Grab Your Job’ Job Matching Day ▲Development of Women-Friendly City Public Facility Guidelines ▲Participation in the Task Force Team for Urban Regeneration Projects in Prostitution Areas ▲Support for Women and Family-Friendly Villages and Care Communities ▲Settlement Support for Multicultural Immigrant Women (support for driver’s license practical exams, Cha Hun meditation休 outings).
