[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) increased again to the 50s after three days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 27th at midnight that 51 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 12,653.
After a sharp rise to 67 new cases on the 20th, the number recorded 51 on the 24th, 28 on the 25th, 39 on the 26th, and 51 on this day, rising back to the 50s after three days. The threshold of fewer than 50 new cases, one of the criteria for the social distancing quarantine system, was broken for the eighth time this month.
Among the 31 locally transmitted cases, 15 were in Seoul and 12 in Gyeonggi Province, accounting for 27 cases in just these two metropolitan areas. Additionally, 2 new cases were confirmed in Daejeon, where local infections have continued for more than ten days, and one case each was added in Daegu and Jeonbuk.
A new cluster infection occurred at Wangseong Church in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, significantly increasing the number of confirmed cases in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area. At least 14 cases related to Wangseong Church have been confirmed so far. Since it is a large church and the confirmed cases include a high school teacher and a hotel sauna employee, there is a high possibility that the number of confirmed cases will continue to rise.
Cases of overseas inflow also continue to increase in double digits. Among the 20 overseas inflow cases confirmed on this day, 11 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 9 were confirmed positive while in self-quarantine in Seoul (2), Gyeonggi (5), Incheon (1), and Chungbuk (1).
Combining local infections and overseas inflow, the metropolitan area accounts for 35 cases, with 17 each in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and 1 in Incheon.
