[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Ministry of Justice announced on the 26th that it will form a "Task Force (TF) for the Protection of the Human Rights of Prisoners' Children." The TF aims to prevent human rights violations against children of inmates in correctional facilities and to assist inmates in their smooth reintegration into society.
The TF is organized under the head of the Correction Headquarters, who serves as the team leader, and consists of four divisions: ▲ Legal and Institutional Improvement Team ▲ Policy and Practical Research Team ▲ External Cooperation Team ▲ Expert Advisory Team. The members include eight mid- to senior-level officials from relevant departments and bureaus as well as external experts from the legal field, academia, and civic organizations.
The TF's activity guidelines focus on improving laws and systems to protect the human rights of prisoners' children. It plans to establish comprehensive legislation concerning the protection and support of prisoners' families and to pursue amendments to laws related to infant care within correctional facilities.
