On the 26th, the Provincial Council elected Kim as the chairman for the second half term after a vote during the 1st plenary session of the 375th extraordinary meeting for the second half term organization.
Among 57 members present, Kim received support from 29 members, narrowly defeating fellow party member Ryu Kyungwan (Namhae), who received 25 votes, by a margin of 4 votes.
There were 2 invalid votes and 1 abstention.

Kim said, "It seems my fellow members chose me as the chairman for the second half term based on everything they usually see and observe about me," adding, "I will work together with you all to make the Gyeongnam Provincial Council one of cooperation and harmony."
