Prime Minister Chung: "'Korea Together Sale' Begins... Good Consumption Revives the Economy"
"Revitalizing Domestic Demand Through Consumption is the Starting Point for Economic Recovery"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun encouraged the public to participate in the 'Korea Together Sale,' which began on the 26th, saying, "Kind consumption revives the economy."
On the morning of the same day, Prime Minister Chung posted on his Facebook, "The Korea Together Sale will serve as a catalyst for our economy to take a step beyond recovery toward growth," expressing this view.
The Korea Together Sale is a large-scale discount event aimed at overcoming the consumption slump caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It involves all economic players, including 633 traditional markets nationwide, about 5,000 neighborhood supermarkets, 35 large manufacturing and distribution companies such as department stores, large marts, electronics, and automobiles, as well as the livestock and fisheries industries, dining, and tourism sectors. Each distribution channel offers discounts of around 30-40% until the 12th of next month.
Prime Minister Chung quoted a passage from 'Buk-hak-ui' (Park Jega), "Wealth is like a well. The more you draw from it, the more it fills up; if unused, it dries up," emphasizing that "stimulating domestic demand through consumption is the starting point for economic recovery."
He added, "Large-scale online and offline discounts and on-site events are being held vibrantly across the country," and mentioned, "We are also making every effort to ensure safety in event operations through thorough quarantine measures."
Prime Minister Chung evaluated, "The government has made various efforts to promote consumption, which has stagnated after COVID-19, such as providing emergency disaster relief funds and supporting the expansion of advance payments and pre-purchases," and said, "Thanks to the unified support of the people, small business owners' sales are showing signs of recovery."
He then emphasized, "Kind consumption revives the economy. The government will accelerate the recovery of economic vitality," and added, "If the people unite their strength, we can overcome both COVID-19 and the hot summer together."
