They are examining the quality of petroleum products in storage and compliance with hazardous material safety management regulations.
The Management Service and the National Fire Agency have established a cooperative system to ensure public safety from fires and environmental pollution and to eradicate counterfeit petroleum products.
From the 25th to the 30th of this month, joint inspections will be conducted targeting hazardous material transport vehicles in areas with heavy vehicle traffic such as industrial complexes nationwide and highway toll gates.
Previously, inspections were conducted by the National Fire Agency on a regular basis according to the "Hazardous Materials Safety Control Act" to check compliance with safety management.
Starting this year, the Management Service will additionally conduct quality inspections of petroleum products stored in vehicles.
The Management Service stops hazardous material transport vehicles on-site to inspect fuel quality according to the "Petroleum Business Act" and to check whether any types of fuel other than those handled are being transported.
The National Fire Agency simultaneously examines qualifications for transporting mobile tanks and whether designated quantities are properly loaded, in accordance with the "Hazardous Materials Safety Control Act."
Son Ju-seok, Director of the Management Service, stated, "We continuously monitor to ensure that no blind spots in management occur anywhere petroleum products are distributed," adding, "We will do our best to protect public safety and establish order in petroleum distribution through various ideas and cooperation with related organizations."
