Currently, only the "history of the Republic of Korea" is specified. They are also considering expressions to include values such as democratization, public safety, and labor rights. This is part of an innovation effort to eliminate unnecessary misunderstandings and get closer to the people.
This is seen as an attempt to break away from the past controversies during the Liberty Korea Party era, when some figures held founding day ceremonies instead of Liberation Day.
Kim Byung-min, chairman of the Special Committee for Revising the Party Platform and Policies under the United Future Party's Emergency Response Committee, said in a phone interview with Asia Economy on the 25th, "Regarding history, I think there is no room for controversy if we follow the preamble of the Constitution," adding, "The Constitution clearly states that the Provisional Government is our root, and no one would deny this, so we intend to include it in the party platform and policies."

The preamble of the Constitution states that "The Korean people inherit the legal tradition of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea established by the March 1st Movement and the democratic ideals of the April 19th Revolution against injustice." Currently, the United Future Party's platform and policies only specify that "we inherit and develop the proud history of the Republic of Korea, which has developed through liberal democracy and market economy." Some argue that 1948 should be regarded as the "founding" year.
Chairman Kim said, "Whether it is 1919 or 1948 is a debate among historians, but for politicians, it is natural to highly value the independence movement history of our ancestors," adding, "There is no one within the United Future Party who looks down on the independence movement, but since it is not expressed in the party platform and policies, we intend to reflect it this time."
Besides this, the United Future Party's platform and policy special committee is also discussing including the spirit of democratization movements such as the April 19th Democratic Revolution and the May 18th Democratization Movement, public safety highlighted by the Sewol ferry disaster, and values such as labor rights including issues of irregular workers. They are deliberating whether to explicitly mention specific names like May 18th.
Chairman Kim said, "We are reviewing whether there are unnecessary obstacles that prevent us from getting closer to the people," adding, "Highly valuing the start of the Republic of Korea government in 1948, industrialization, and democratization is a perspective based on common sense."
