Strengthening Management of Registered Rental Housing Operators... Government Establishes 'Illegal Activity Reporting Center'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 25th that starting from the 26th, it will establish a 'Registered Rental Illegal Activity Reporting Center' at the Ministry and metropolitan and local governments to eradicate illegal activities by registered rental housing landlords.
Until now, even if tenants or third parties recognized illegal activities by registered rental landlords, there was no proper channel to report them, which has been pointed out as a problem.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to strengthen management of registered rental landlords by setting up dedicated reporting channels on the Ministry’s website and at metropolitan and local governments.
The reporting targets cover all public duty violations by registered rental housing landlords. Representative cases include ▲violation of the mandatory rental period (4 or 8 years) (such as owner residence or early sale) ▲violation of rent increase restrictions (within 5%) ▲non-use of the standard lease contract ▲failure to report lease contracts.
Electronic reporting is the principle, but if electronic reporting is difficult, it is also possible to submit in writing or visit the Ministry or the relevant local government to report.
The Ministry and local governments will investigate the reported illegal activities, and if violations by the registered rental landlords are confirmed, administrative actions such as fines will be taken against the landlords, and the results will be notified to related agencies and the reporters.
