Gangbuk-gu, Sustainable Development Indicators Confirmed and Announced
Environment, Society, Economy, and Implementation Foundation: 47 Indicators Confirmed by 4 Subcommittees Posted on District Website...Sustainability Evaluation and Report to be Published Every 2 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyumsu) has finalized and announced the Sustainable Development Indicators, a statistical method to achieve sustainability in Gangbuk-gu by harmonizing and balancing the environment, society, and economy for both current and future generations.
Prior to this, since the enactment of the ‘Seoul Gangbuk-gu Basic Ordinance on Sustainable Development’ in 2017, Gangbuk-gu established a basic strategy and implementation plan for sustainable development that includes 17 goals, 50 strategies, 93 implementation tasks, and 327 unit projects reflecting the district’s characteristics, linked with the UN and national sustainable development goals along with Gangbuk-gu’s sustainable development vision.
The Sustainable Development Indicators adopted a keyword approach to enhance relevance with the basic sustainable development strategy and ensured flexibility by allowing the addition or modification of indicators based on sustainability evaluation results and changing conditions.
The indicators were finalized at 47 after discussions in the four subcommittees of the ‘Gangbuk-gu Sustainable Development Committee’?environment, society, economy, and implementation foundation?building an indicator pool, collecting opinions from related departments, and reviewing the appropriateness and feasibility of the indicators.
The finalized Sustainable Development Indicators have been posted in the ‘News’ section of the district’s website, and the district plans to evaluate overall sustainability every two years using these indicators and publish a report.

Park Kyumsu, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “We finalized the Sustainable Development Indicators to anticipate various problems that may arise in the future and seek alternatives so that future generations can lead better lives,” adding, “Based on this, Gangbuk-gu will lay the foundation to approach a leading position in the field of ‘sustainable development.’”
