Dongwon F&B Completes Premium Korean Meal Set with Launch of ‘Yangban Guktang Jjigae’
‘Gamasot Traditional Method’... Deep Broth Flavor and Excellent Texture
Targeting Annual Sales of 50 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Dongwon F&B’s ‘Yangban’ brand, with a 35-year tradition, recently launched 14 varieties of ‘Guktang Jjigae’ products, completing a full Korean meal lineup solely under the Yangban brand. By combining various Yangban products according to the situation and preference, one can quickly prepare a proper Korean table setting rich in taste and nutrition.
‘Yangban Guktang Jjigae’ is a convenient pouch-type home meal replacement (HMR) soup product that embodies the Yangban brand philosophy of “ingredients must be alive for the taste to come alive.” It is made by boiling carefully selected natural ingredients using a traditional cauldron method, capturing the deep flavors of authentic Korean cuisine. It features preserving the original taste and texture of the ingredients while harmonizing each component.
Yangban Guktang Jjigae is richly composed of a total of 14 varieties: 6 types of tang (soup), 5 types of jjigae (stew), and 3 types of guk (broth). Key products include ‘Whole Tuna Kimchi Jjigae,’ which uses whole sashimi-grade tuna in a refreshing tuna broth; ‘Chadol Yukgaejang,’ which contains plenty of brisket in a richly brewed brisket broth; and ‘Hanwoo Sagol Seolleongtang,’ which features abundant beef in a rich Korean beef bone broth.
To produce Yangban Guktang Jjigae, Dongwon F&B invested 40 billion KRW in new advanced specialized equipment on a 3,000-pyeong site at the Dongwon F&B Gwangju factory. This investment shortened the heat treatment time by more than 20% compared to previous methods, preserving the original taste and texture of the ingredients. Previously, commercial guktang jjigae products faced limitations where prolonged heat exposure during production softened the texture of ingredients and darkened the broth color, resulting in a dull taste. However, Dongwon F&B overcame these limitations by successfully reducing heat treatment time with the new equipment.
The product is ready in just 5 minutes by heating in a microwave or boiling in a pot. Made using the ‘traditional cauldron method,’ where all ingredients are cooked together without separately heating individual components, it offers a deep broth flavor and excellent ingredient texture. The pouch packaging also makes storage and portability convenient.
