KOSPI Ends Slightly Higher at 2130 on Individual Net Buying... KOSDAQ Rises for 4 Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI closed above the 2130 level, rising on net purchases by individual investors. The KOSDAQ index also ended slightly higher, continuing its upward trend for the fourth consecutive trading day.
On the 23rd, the KOSPI started higher, rising more than 1% in early trading to approach the 2160 level. Around 10 a.m., the gains narrowed, and by 10:20 a.m., it turned downward. It then rose again around 11 a.m., fluctuated near the 2130 level, and closed at 2131.24, up 4.51 points (0.21%) from the previous day.
Looking at trading trends by participant, individual investors led the index higher with net purchases of 356 billion KRW. In contrast, institutions and foreign investors sold net amounts of 284.3 billion KRW and 56.9 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, pharmaceuticals (2.39%), services (2.18%), and food and beverages (1.57%) rose, while textiles and apparel (-1.74%), construction (-1.66%), and securities (-1.60%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Celltrion (7.24%) and SK (5.63%) rose more than 5%, while Hyundai Mobis (4.89%), LG Household & Health Care (4.51%), and NCSoft (3.60%) also increased. Conversely, Samsung Electronics (-1.15%), SK Hynix (-0.94%), and LG Chem (-0.40%) fell.
On the day, the KOSPI market saw 271 stocks rise, including 9 stocks hitting the upper price limit, while 586 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit. Fifty-four stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also rose slightly, closing higher for the fourth consecutive trading day. Like the KOSPI, the KOSDAQ started higher but briefly turned down in the morning before resuming gains and maintaining a slight upward trend throughout the day, closing at 753.23, up 1.59 points (0.21%) from the previous session.
By trading participant, individual investors net bought 114.2 billion KRW, while foreign and institutional investors net sold 86.7 billion KRW and 21.7 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, digital content (4.68%), machinery and equipment (1.45%), and food and tobacco (0.77%) rose, while telecommunications services (-2.13%), construction (-1.63%), and textiles and apparel (-1.39%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Rino Industrial surged 8.25%, while Pearl Abyss (5.26%), Seegene (2.23%), and Celltrion Healthcare (1.43%) also rose. Conversely, Alteogen (-1.61%), SK Materials (-1.23%), Celltrion Pharm (-0.71%), and CJ ENM (-0.62%) declined.
