Gyeongbuk Police Agency Arrests Man in His 30s for Violating COVID-19 Self-Quarantine... 19 Referred to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] A man in his 30s who violated the self-quarantine guidelines set by health authorities and assaulted police officers dispatched to the scene in Gyeongsangbuk-do has been arrested.
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on the 23rd that they have arrested Mr. A (37) on charges of assaulting police officers dispatched after he failed to comply with the two-week self-quarantine order issued by health authorities following his arrival from overseas (violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act and obstruction of official duties, among others).
According to the police, Mr. A visited a pub in Pohang the day after arriving from overseas on the 30th of last month and assaulted the police officers who were dispatched following a report from the pub owner.
Separately, the police have forwarded to the prosecution 15 individuals who violated self-quarantine measures and left without permission since the outbreak of COVID-19, along with 4 others who intentionally provided false statements during epidemiological investigations conducted by health authorities, recommending indictment.

A police official stated, "Following the amendment of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act in April, penalties for violating self-quarantine have been strengthened from fines to imprisonment of up to one year or fines up to 10 million won. Malicious and habitual violators may even face detention," urging strict compliance with health authorities' guidelines.
