LG Electronics Wins Refrigerator Patent Infringement Injunction Lawsuit Against European Appliance Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Electronics has won a lawsuit filed against European home appliance companies, demanding that they stop unauthorized use of LG Electronics' refrigerator patent technology.
According to LG Electronics on the 22nd, the Munich Regional Court in Germany ruled in favor of the plaintiff on the 19th (local time) in the patent infringement injunction lawsuit filed by LG Electronics against Beko and Grundig.
LG Electronics explained that the trial for the lawsuit filed against their parent company, Turkish home appliance manufacturer Arcelik, is scheduled to take place at the end of this year.
Earlier, in September last year, LG Electronics filed a lawsuit claiming that Arcelik produced side-by-side refrigerators by unauthorized use of the company's proprietary patented technology "Door Ice Making," which is adopted in their side-by-side refrigerators.
LG Electronics also filed the same lawsuit against Beko and Grundig, who sold the products in Europe, including Germany and the United Kingdom.
The Door Ice Making technology is LG Electronics' patented technology that places all ice-making related components, such as the ice maker inside the freezer, the ice storage bin, and the motor that moves the ice, on the freezer door. LG Electronics holds about 400 global registered patents related to refrigerator door ice-making technology.
Based on this ruling, LG Electronics plans to prevent Beko and Grundig from selling refrigerators applying LG Electronics' Door Ice Making technology in Germany.
