'Changnyeong 9-Year-Old Child Abuse' Stepfather and Biological Mother Sent to Prosecution... Police Apply 'Special Injury' Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] A stepfather and biological mother who abused a 9-year-old girl in Changnyeong, Gyeongnam, have been referred to the prosecution.
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 22nd that they sent stepfather A (35) and biological mother B (28) to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment on charges including habitual special injury under the Child Abuse Punishment Act and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.
This case came to public attention when C (9), who had been continuously abused, dramatically escaped from the veranda of a fourth-floor house on the 29th of last month, risking her safety.
The stepfather was issued an arrest warrant on the 15th of this month. The biological mother, who suffers from symptoms of schizophrenia, was administratively hospitalized for two weeks, and the police completed their investigation of her at the hospital on the 19th. The biological mother admitted to the charges but denied some allegations, such as the use of tools. She also stated that the motive for the abuse was that C lied and did not obey.
